Changes and improvements to AIM interoperability

Gmail is changing the way you connect to AIM buddies. Instead of signing into AIM from Gmail, you can now connect directly to AIM Usernames with your Gmail address.

You'll need to add your AIM buddies to your Gmail contacts in order to continue chatting with them in Gmail. You can use this simple importer - to get started, login to AIM.

From the start, Google Talk Google designed using open standards so you can connect with friends and family using chat any product, making communication as easy as possible. A few years ago, Google announced our partnership with AOL that made it possible for people to chat with users of AIM from within Gmail. Today, Google is pleased to announce that AOL has made it possible to chat with AOL contacts through a variety of Google services: Gmail not only, but also to iGoogle, Orkut, Google Talk and Android phones.

If you chat with friends on AIM in Gmail, you'll notice some changes. First, you no longer need an AIM account to connect with friends using AIM. Instead, you can add your AIM contacts and add contacts from your Gmail chat list: the use of AOL screennames (eg username@aol.com). AIM users will now also be able to add contacts from Google to your AIM chat clients.
